Prof. Dr. Iwona Sagan and Dr. Rafał Gajewski took part in the 2nd Polish Conference on Urban and Regional Research, held in Łódź on 23-25.10.2022. The theme of this year’s conference was a territory and the dilemmas of its development.

The conference discussed the territorialisation of development and presented the results of scientific research in this area. Paper sessions and discussions were dedicated to issues such as:
– the diversity of theoretical approaches and perspectives,
– the territorial dimension of economic development,
– territorial approaches to addressing climate change,
– European Green Deal and a territorially-oriented equitable transformation.

Prof. Iwona Sagan took part in the plenary session with a speech entitled ‘Self-governance and the territorialisation of development processes. She argued that only a strong local government could guarantee the effectiveness of public policies aimed at solving problems of key concern to local and regional communities. In turn, Dr. Rafał Gajewski presented a paper entitled. “Differentiation of regional multi-level governance systems. Examples of the Lubelskie, Pomorskie, and Śląskie Regions” in the thematic session entitled “The Territorial Dimension of Economic Development”. One of the themes discussed after the presentations in this session was the issue of responsibility for creating and promoting a multi-level model of the implementation of public service.

In addition to participating in lively and often hard-to-timed discussions, conference participants had the opportunity to take part in a research walk devoted to the revitalisation processes in Łódź, its effects, and experiences. The walk was organised in cooperation with the City of Łódź Office of Revitalisation and Housing.
