Another RECOURSE ahead of us! Please join us this Wednesday

We are pleased to invite you to another exciting seminar this semester, dedicated to the global phenomenon of remunicipalisation. The presentation will be led by an outstanding expert in the field, Dr. Franziska Paul from the University of Glasgow. The event promises to be a source of interesting insights into the progressive potential of this transformative trend.

Event details:

  • Date: December 13, 2023 (Wednesday),
  • Time: 13:00,
  • Venue: Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Gdansk, room B214 / online transmission,
  • Seminar topic: “The political economy of remunicipalisation

During the seminar, we will delve into the concept of remunicipalisation, which involves the return of previously commercialized infrastructures, services, and resources to public ownership at the local, municipal, or regional level. This global trend, evident since the early 2000s, challenges neoliberal governance and addresses pressing issues such as the climate crisis, growing inequality, and deteriorating quality of public services.

Drawing on empirical materials from Germany and the United States across various sectors, including energy, waste management, transportation, and banking, Dr. Franziska Paul will discuss the political economy of remunicipalisation and its broader implications for post-neoliberal change. The presentation will contextualize remunicipalisation in the wider social, political, legal, cultural, and economic context, providing a comprehensive understanding of how de-commercialization can pave the way for more democratic forms of governance and alternative economic development.

We believe that your participation will contribute to enriching the discourse.
