See you at the RECOURSE seminar!
It’s our pleasure to invite you to the last RECOURSE scientific seminar of this semester, which will take place in just two days. This time our special guest will be Prof. Dorota Mantey from the University of Warsaw.
Event details:
- Date: June 12th (Wednesday),
- Time: 13:00,
- Place: Faculty of Social Sciences UG, room B214 / online broadcast,
- Seminar topic: „Suburbs in the process of their socialisation – from publicly used spaces to local centres”
Presentation topic:
In post-socialist Europe, starting from the transition period, many traditional villages located in the sphere of influence of large cities have been transformed into sprawling suburban settlements with disrupted composition and spatial layout. At the same time, many new amorphous suburbs have been created in the suburbs. The newly created suburbs are characterised by functional truncation – they are megasites with uncomfortable access to the nearby metropolis. Shared spaces have been reduced to spaces of flow, where there is no time, space or desire to build deeper social contacts.
The aim of the presentation:
1. To present the conclusions of years of research conducted in suburbs of Warsaw: Prof. Mantey will share the results of research on the social functioning of these suburbs, showing how they have changed over the years.
2. Presentation of spatial policy concepts: The lecture will present spatial policy proposals based on a hierarchical system of local centres and integration spaces. Such a concept can be a starting point for the modernisation of chaotically developed suburbs and contribute to improving the quality of life of their inhabitants.
The online broadcast will be available at the link:
