We are very pleased to inform than accordingly to the decision of the Polish President from the 17th of April 2019 Professor Iwona Sagan was given the title of Professor of Earth Sciences. Congratulations!
On the 1st of April dr Joanna Stępień together with Tomasz Mikulski and Rafał Gajewski visited high school no. IX in Gdynia Orłowo. It was the second visit of members of our staff in this school. Whilst the first one concerned the topic of who and how shapes the city, the last one aimed to discuss the main challenges ahead of cities and metropoles.
The three RECOURSE were held in recent weeks. What’s more, we organized a premiere screening of our documentary on the development of the Vistula river waterfronts. The material is now available online!
We are very pleased to inform that prof. UG, dr hab. Iwona Sagan (the Head of our Department) has been nominated as a member of the Committee for Spatial Economy and Regional Planning at the Presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The term of office covers the 2019-2022 period. Congratulations!

The Conference “Urban Cultural Change: Smartness, Sustainability, Inclusion”, organised by our Department was held in Gdańsk on 29-30 November 2018. It was full of thought-provoking and inspiring contributions!
On November 22 the public doctoral defense of Dominika Studzińska, MA on the theme of “Change of the role and character of the Polish-Russian border and conditions for the development of the Polish border zone.” was held. To the content of all those present, the defense was successful, and the dissertation was granted with a distinction. Congratulations!
Dr. Jakub H. Szlachetko, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Oceanography and Geography, became the winner of the 7th edition of the nationwide competition “Rising Stars Lawyers – leaders of tomorrow 2018” organised by Dziennik Gazeta Prawna and Wolters Kluwer Polska.
